Quite simply—NO. The harsh detergents and high temperatures in dishwashers can easily damage the fit and finish of your knife. The metal may oxidize, and pitting may occur. The knife can also inadvertently cause serious damage to your dishwasher. Please use a mild soap and warm water to clean your knife. Towel dry the knife immediately after washing it.
We use high performance steels that contain high carbon content to give the blade strength, durability, and long life. If the blade is left in a wet environment, surface rust may form. "Stainless" is better understood as "Stains less". Rest assured, there is an easy fix, simply mix baking soda and water to form a paste. And clean your knife with it. It won't scratch even a mirror polished blade. Your blade will be restored.
In addition, it is important to never push directly down on the blade. Rather, you should use a gentle back-and-forth cutting motion. This allows the sharp blade to do the work, rather than relying on your brawn. Most importantly, it distributes the force of the cut away from the thinnest edge of the blade, therefore making the knife much less prone to chipping while extending its life.
